When it comes to buying furniture there are two main things you need to consider. Do you go for a cheap version that will last perhaps a few years before starting to look past its best or do you invest more of your money in a product that will last for many years? We asked Priest Brothers!
Everyone has different priorities and different needs so there really is no right or wrong answer. If you are the sort of person that gets easily bored with furniture and soft furnishings then maybe investing in something that is going to last is not the best option. On the other hand, many people would prefer not to have to start looking for new furniture every four or five years, or indeed every time they decorate. If you want furniture that is going to last then the real wood variety is certainly going to be the best option for you.
Of course it’s not just the fact that it lasts far longer that has appeal, it’s also the appearance as well that needs to be taken into account. Real wood has a beautiful grain that is unique to each piece of furniture so no two items will look exactly the same. This unique grain will be enhanced by the finish used on the furniture which could be natural oil, lacquer or wax. Every piece of wood used will be a slightly different colour which also gives variety to the piece. Compare that to a piece of furniture manufactured from imitation wood. No matter how hard they try the manufacturers can’t replicate real wood exactly so there will always be a regular repetition in the pattern of the grain. OK for a functional piece of furniture but hardly an item that you could be proud to own and use.
